Millikin women’s soccer limits No. 1 WashU to two goals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Millikin University women's soccer traveled two hours to the No. 1 team in the nation, Washington University in St. Louis, for a good challenge, keeping up with the Bears but falling 0-2 to sit at 6-3 on the season.

WashU came out early with two goals in the first 27 minutes of the game but was not able to extend to its season average of about six goals per game.

The Big Blue lost the statistical battle with only one shot and two corner kicks, while the Bears took 29 shots and nine corners.

Jessica Bearley performed well in the post to keep WashU from cashing in goals, finishing with nine total saves on their 11 shots on goal. This puts Bearley at 29 saves with a .674 save percentage on the season.

"We fought for 90 minutes against the reigning national champions and the current number 1 team in the country. We're very proud of our efforts today," said head coach Ian Doherty.

Millikin heads to Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Saturday, September 26, to open College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play against Carthage College with the first whistle at 2 p.m. on Art Keller Field, also on the CCIW Network.
