In a top-10 matchup, No. 5 Heartland fell to No. 9 Parkland in the conference opener yesterday in four sets (23-25, 23-25, 28-26, 23-25).
The first two sets ended with the same score but told different stories. Set one saw the Hawks amass 11 kills at a .111 hitting percentage, while set two saw the Hawks record just five kills with seven attack errors for a -.053 hitting percentage. The lone set win for the Hawks came in the third, where they had 12 kills. In set four, the Hawks had their best performance of the match offensively but could not hold back the Cobras as they ultimately fell 3-1.
Outside hitter Elena Kvasnicka led the Hawks with 14 kills at a .171 hitting percentage while also contributing on defense with six total blocks. Outside hitter Ava Yeakel continued to be effective at the net for the Hawks with 12 kills. Yeakel also had five aces, 13 assists and 13 digs to round out a solid game. Libero Kayleigh Keim had 21 digs and 21 assists to contribute on both ends. Outside hitter Addison Pacha added 17 digs and 17 assists.

The Hawks are back in action this Friday and Saturday in the Heartland Invite, where they will face Milwaukee Area Tech, Rock Valley and Ellsworth at the FRC.
