GREENWOOD, Ind. - For the fifth consecutive year, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf program reeled in College Sports Communicators Academic All-America status with junior Emily Gastrau (Wauwatosa, Wis.- Wauwatosa East) and sophomore Grace Fagan (Kirkwood, Mo.-Visitation Academy) snagging the at-large honor for the first time in their respective careers, announced by the organization Tuesday, July 7.
With the selections, Gastrau and Fagan are the fourth and fifth women's golfers in program history to receive the prestigious award. The duo shared the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Elite 26 award as Gastrau held a 4.0 grade point average in business and Fagan finished with a 4.0 GPA while majoring in psychology and Hispanic studies. They are the first teammates to take home the award in the same season since Emma Thorman and Lexi Onsrud did so in 2023. The duo becomes the program's fourth and fifth selections, joining three-time selectee Onsrud, Thorman, and Macy Ludwig.
Gastrau was named a CSC Academic All-America First Team selection, as she put a bow on her junior year with her best season as a Titan. The Wauwatosa, Wis. native carded her first career win at the CCIW Championship, Oct. 6-8, claiming medalist honors with a 54-hole 222. She also established new 18- and 36-hole career lows at the IWU Fall Classic, Sept. 13-14, with scores of 72 and 150, respectively. Gastrau participated in 24 rounds, logging a career-best 77.4 stroke average to go with three top-10 finishes.
Fagan's strong sophomore season resulted in Third Team CSC Academic All-America status, capturing her second career win. She topped the field at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, April 11-12, rattling off a 147 two-day total. The sophomore earned a plethora of conference honors, corralling back-to-back CCIW Golfer of the Week awards (April 15 and April 22) to go along with First Team All-CCIW recognition. Competing in 24 rounds, Fagan compiled a 78.8 stroke average and logged five top-10 finishes.
The duo helped the Green and White to the program's 20th CCIW Championship and a tie for 16th at the NCAA Championship. The junior and sophomore are set to return to the links for IWU women's golf in the upcoming year.
