Decatur, IL – The Class of 2027 was honored today as the Big Blue men's soccer program took on the Regents of Rockford University at Frank M. Lindsay Field. Millikin proved to be too much for the Regents, 4-0. With the victory, the Big Blue improves to 3-3-1, while Rockford falls to 3-3-1 (0-1).
Senior Bryce Davis would continue his strong start to the season with a goal in the 18th minute after a pass from fellow senior Olav Kaldahl. Kaldahl would come close to adding another goal for the Big Blue with a shot just off the top woodwork. Senior Aaron Zoellner received the start in net for Millikin. Zoellner saved both shots he faced throughout the first half. The Big Blue carried a 1-0 lead into the half.
After the half, a pass from Aidan Welch to Mikkel Opdahl increased the lead for the Blue & White, 2-0; the goal was Opdahl's first of the season. Five minutes later, Welch notched another assist after a pass to Aquiles Yibirin found the back of the goal, increasing the lead to 3-0. Matthew Hart found the back of the net for the second time this season in the 67th minute thanks to an assist from Arthur Medina. The Big Blue would hold off the Regents to achieve their second shutout of the season, 4-0.
"We've got a lot of guys this year that can contribute, so through this non-conference slate we've been trying who can give us what and how much they can give us, which has been super exciting," said Head Coach Charlie Ward. "We love it when fans come out, we feed off that energy and we're looking forward to returning home in October".
Men's soccer heads back on the road for a non-conference matchup against Franklin College on Wednesday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
