NAPERVILLE, Ill. - For the third time this season, and fifth in her career, junior Alysa Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill.-IC Catholic Prep) garnered the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Week accolade, announced by the conference Monday, Oct. 12. The junior adds the award to her mantle after claiming the honor Sept. 7 and Sept. 14. She is the first Titan to win the award three times in a season since the conference split the honor in 2004.
The Green and White used just six sets to take care of both Elmhurst University and Augustana College last week with Lawton at the defensive forefront of the sweeps. For the week, the junior tallied 5.00 digs per set and delivered eight assists along with an ace. Lawton and the Titan defense held their opponents for the week to a .039 hitting percentage.
Returning to her hometown of Elmhurst, Lawton had 13 digs and five assists in the sweep over the Bluejays. Against Augie, Lawton turned in her best performance of the week with a 17-dig three-assist showing.
Illinois Wesleyan continues CCIW play with North Park University Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Shirk Center. First serve between the Titans and Vikings is set for 6 p.m.
