The live Apostolic Christian Church service was held in the activity room Sunday morning, May 10. For those who chose to stay in their rooms, the livestreaming of the A.C. Church Service on the Prairie was made available on activity channel 2. Thank you to all the volunteers to make this weekly service possible!
Monday morning, residents were excited for an outing to the Hunsinger Museum in Roanoke to learn more about the history of the town. This small group enjoyed the different exhibits the museum had showing how Roanoke grew from a coal mining town to what it is today! Thank you to Harold and Judy Sauder for providing us with the opportunity to see the museum and teach us all a little more about the town we call home. For those who chose to stay back, Rise and Shine Exercises were done in the activity room. Residents enjoy working out to the simple videos shown on the Smartboard with music playing in the background. There was a large crowd of ready to win bingo players that afternoon in the dining room. The lucky Coverall winner was resident Jim Young, getting his choice between a large candy bar or Bingo Bucks. That evening, residents played the card game Crazy 8’s in the activity room.

Making Lobby Cookies Tuesday morning had the ladies continuing on with baking and individually wrapping chocolate chip cookies. A few residents even moseyed in to sample their work and all said they were delicious. Next the ladies assisted the laundry department in Helping Hands – Fold Towels. The ladies were then busy during Helping Hands – Garden transplanting the tomatoes, basil and cucumbers into larger buckets (the vegetables previously planted a couple weeks earlier in the grow-in-pot kits in the activity room). The excitement has set in as these relishes are sprouting quickly and will soon be fresh, yummy veggies for all to sample. The popcorn social that afternoon gathered many into the activity room to enjoy the salty snack while watching a "Step Back in Time" presentation. This was a recap of last month’s activity pictures along with a discussion about what they would like to do more of i.e. games, outings, intergenerational events etc. In the activity room that evening, a group of residents enjoyed playing Categories A-Z. Some of the topics they chose consisted of food and animals. Everyone had a great time!
Wednesday morning began with a spring themed workout called Flower Exercises. Flower stems were made out of green copy paper with leave added to the side for extra detail and pretty pastel flowers were added to the top of the stems. Each resident picked a flowers and was handed an envelope that corresponded with the color of the flower. The exercise that was written inside the envelope was then completed. Many enjoy these fun themed exercises and look forward to them every month.
Shortly after, the monthly resident/kitchen council was held in the activity room. This gives residents a place to express any concerns or make suggestions in an anonymous setting. That afternoon, many played Family Feud in the activity room. Later that evening, Go Fish! was played in the activity room. This group had fun playing this popular card game as many rounds were played. For those who opted out of the activity, the livestreaming of the Apostolic Christian Church "Family Night" service was made available on activity channel 2.
Residents were eager Thursday morning for another outing to Walmart. Many enjoy browsing around the store for some personal items, new outfits, and some snacks to munch on. Volunteer Judy Luginbuhl shared her musical talents by playing Dining Room Melodies on the piano before the noon meal. She played many familiar hymns that had a few resident singing along. Bingo, that afternoon, drew a large crowd of residents, Country View tenants and Family Members into the dining room to play the favorite game. Residents Ila Pfister and Dolly Norman were thrilled when they were the Coverall winner at the end getting their choice between a large candy bar or Bingo Bucks. A special thank you to Apostolic Christian Church in Gridley for providing musical entertainment in the dining room that evening. Many enjoyed listening to the wonderful harmonies this group chose to sing. Afterwards, a few enjoyed socializing with some of the members.
National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, Friday, May 15, was celebrated with coffee bar and chocolate Chip Cookies that morning in the activity room. A few opted for some milk to dip their cookies in while other enjoyed a fresh cup of coffee. Everyone enjoyed the Country Music played in the background. Shortly after, a “Make Your Own Bowl” craft followed in the activity room. Residents were handed an inflated balloon and were instructed to use Mod Podge to place different colored tissue paper around the top of the balloon forming a half sphere shape. Once the mod podge hardened, the balloon was popped and each participant had their own decorative bowl to keep in their rooms.
Thank you to Dietary Aide, Doug Moser, for playing the piano before the noon meal. That afternoon, many joined the activity staff and a few Junior Volunteers in the activity to enjoy a root beer float. After finishing the yummy snack, the outdoor game Ladder Ball was then played. This had participants separated into two teams. The goal was to wrap the bola (two balls connected by rope) around the ladder by throwing it. Where it landed, depended on how many points you earned. This game was quite difficult as first, but many got the hang of it quickly and thoroughly enjoyed it! We look forward to playing again next month! In the activity room that evening, two different Board Games were played. A group played the game Sorry! which turned competitive as they all kept getting knocked back to the start. There were also a few one-on-one games of checkers played as well. Fun was had by all!
DEATH: Richard “Dick” Sanders, formerly of Eureka, passed away on May 11 after being a resident since December 2023. All expressed their deepest sympathy to his friends and family.
ADMISSION: Norma Haase, of Benson, was admitted to room west 21 on May 12. Judith “Judi” Wilkerson, of Washington, was also admitted to room west 21 on May 12. A warm welcome was given to both these ladies by staff and residents.
DISCHARGE: Delores Marti discharged back to her home in Gridley on May 15. She will be missed by all!
