Schmillen claims last spot

STRIDING ALONG – Levi Schmillen continues on the trail in Saturday’s Oregon Sectional. The Fieldcrest runner took 15th overall and nailed down the seventh individual spot among runners not on a top five team. He advanced to this weekend’s state finals in Peoria (Courtesy photo).

Levi Schmillen of Fieldcrest ran to the seventh and final individual qualification slot in Saturday's Oregon Sectional. He finished in a time of 16 minutes, 44 seconds over three miles. The first seven placers not a member of one of the top five teams advance. Schmillen, who took 15th overall, finished ahead of North Boone's Skyler Yunk by 2.56 seconds for the last position.

Nick Monkemeyer of team champion Rockford Lutheran won the race in 16:04. The one A state final will be contested Saturday morning at 10 a.m. from Detweiller Park in Peoria.
