5 years ago (2008): Michael DeRubeis struck out eight batters in six innings and the Fieldcrest baseball team scored in each of the first five innings en route to a 10-2 victory over Flanagan-Woodland in the Heart of Illinois Conference tournament championship.

15 years ago (1998): The winningest season in Illinois Wesleyan's lengthy baseball history has become just that — history. Despite being unanimously voted as the fifth team by the regional committee and posting a 2-1 record against Carthage during the season, Carthage got the nod and was chosen to host. "It's a good ol’ boy network," said Titan coach Dennis Martel.

25 years ago (1988): John Bergman's 11th-inning RBI triple, combined with his three diving catches, lifted the Normal Community High School baseball team to a 5-4 victory at Decatur Eisenhower. NCHS also benefitted from Eric Veal's 400-foot solo home run to centerfield in the sixth.

50 years ago (1963): Coasting on the pitching of Bill Evans and Henry “Irish” O’Reilly, Illinois State Normal University's baseball team defeated Northern Illinois, 4-2 and 6-4, in an Interstate Conference doubleheader. Bruce Kunz drove in three runs in the nightcap.
