5 years ago (2016): Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Molly McGraw cleared a school-record 5 foot, 9¼ inches to win the women’s high jump at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. McGraw is a Central Catholic High School graduate.
15 years ago (2006): Bloomington High School’s Ryan Juris dominated on the mound and his teammates put together a five-run third inning to power the Purple Raiders to a 5-1 victory over top-seeded Champaign Central in the championship game of the Champaign Central Class AA Regional baseball tournament.
25 years ago (1996): University High School graduate Kurt Hudson, a junior at Northwestern, was an honorable mention selection to the National Wrestling Coaches All-Academic teams. Hudson is a political science major with a 3.20 grade-point average. He was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten Conference team.
50 years ago (1971): Illinois State football back Joe Stieglitz has been named winner of the first Fred Cleland Memorial Scholarship, given in honor of the ISU football player who died prior to the 1970 season. Stieglitz, a junior from Metamora, was presented the award at the ISU All-Sports Banquet.
