On the strength of forcing five turnovers and rushing for 266 yards, Lexington won its season opener on the road 38-12 against El Paso-Gridley.
Holding a 13-6 halftime lead, Lexington scored two touchdowns with less than a minute left in the third quarter. The first was on a Bruce Freed 1-yard run, the second on a Benny Winterland fumble recovery and 33-yard return.
The fourth quarter was more of the same as Tyler Van Vickle (17 carries, 98 yards), and T.J. Stinde (10 carries for 68 yards) both scored on runs over 30 yards for Lexington.
El Paso-Gridley's Ryan Augsburger caught 5 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Augsburger had game-highs in receptions and receiving yards.
