March 14, 1914: This is Style Week in Bloomington, with the total community putting on a style show featuring its buildings and attractions. The Pantagraph put out a special section devoted to topics of style. The fashion industry and latest in apparel are prominently featured.
75 years ago
March 14, 1939: The Central Illinois Art Exposition opens Sunday at the Scottish Rite Temple. Nearly $2 million worth of art will be on display for three weeks. Police, deputies and members of the American Legion firing squad will share security duties.
50 years ago
March 14, 1964: Somewhere in Georgia there’s a lady whom Twin Citians call 2,500 times every day. She tells them the time. Her phone number will be among 7,000 that change Sunday. And her message will add three words to the time: “temperature (blank) degrees.”
25 years ago
March 14, 1989: Normal and Stanford have agreed Normal can drill a well on land it owns in Allin Township. Normal will be able to pump water from the Allin site if another of its wells is out of service. The country well could produce up to 1 million gallons per day.
