LGBT events need to be publicized

  • 0

As an openly gay woman, I can honestly say how frustrating it is to never know where to find the events of the LGBT community. In Bloomington-Normal, I read about religious events, see it on the street and even publicized on television. It is easy to find out if there is a fundraiser at a church but almost impossible to find out when the next PFLAG meeting is.

We need more publication of events in the LGBT community because all the events in our town are hidden away. This town solely relies on their religious community's reputation, however we need to be accepting of everyone in this town and proudly announce all aspects of our community.

About one fourth of our community is involved with the LGBT surroundings in Bloomington-Normal. Some are members of PFLAG, some support the plays and fundraisers and others are LGBT proud. We should be able to find the information we need. It is as simple as publishing an article, announcing it in the news or even allowing a building dedicated to the LGBT community. You could compare it to a church, where everyone is welcome to support and talk about events in the community.
