BLOOMINGTON — The City of Bloomington announced available spaces to keep residents safe and warm as freezing temperatures and a winter storm roll in.
Those available sites include:
Warming centers
Bloomington Public Library:
- 205 E. Olive St., 309-828-6091; 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
Connect Transit Bus:
- parking lot of the McLean County Health Department, 200 W. Front St., Bloomington, availability determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on available resources.
Walmart:
- 2225 W. Market St., 309-828-5646, 7 a.m.-11 p.m.

Homeless shelters:
Salvation Army Safe Harbor:
- 208 N. Oak St., Bloomington. Shelter open 5 p.m.-8 a.m. for residents. Open for people who are residents or day center patrons but are not banned from the property or from receiving services. Emergency winter shelter open for residents until Oct. 15-March 31, providing additional beds and services. For those who aren't residents but need to get out of the cold, the Safety Net is open 10 p.m.-5:30 a.m. in the lobby, offering snacks, drinks, restrooms and blankets.
Home Sweet Home Ministries:
- 303 E. Oakland Ave., Bloomington, open 24 hours; The Junction at Home Sweet Home Ministries, 301 E. Oakland Ave., is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and welcomes anyone from the community in need of a place to warm up.
Project Oz:
- serves homeless youth ages 17-23, call PATH at 309-827-4005 and ask them to page Project Oz on-call staff.
