EDELSTEIN - Richard A. DeKeyser, 74, of Edelstein, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 10, 2005) at his residence.
He was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Kewanee, to Gustaf and Margaret Standaert DeKeyser. He married Marles J. Varner on July 4, 1953, in Sacramento, Calif. She survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Karen DeKeyser, Peoria; Angela (Tony) Prayne, Edelstein; and Aimee (Bob) Hamilton, Boynton Beach, Fla.; two sons, Michael (Lori) DeKeyser, Atlanta, and David DeKeyser and his partner, Tim Williams, Pekin; two sisters; four brothers; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three infant sons.
He was a graduate of Kewanee High School and attended Bradley University.He was an engineer at Caterpillar's Mossville plant for 35 years and retired in 1990. He was given a patent for the 3406 B. Fuel Injection System.He was a Korean Conflict Air Force veteran serving in Alaska and California. He was quarterback for the Air Force football team.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and the Caterpillar Golf League for many years.
He coached St. Edward's girl's basketball team for four years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and mostly enjoyed time spent with his family.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Church, Dunlap, with the Rev. Bruce Lopez officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, Peoria, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Peoria.
