Marilynn Geskey

BLOOMINGTON — Marilynn J. Geskey, 87, of Bloomington, died at 8:12 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 15, 2014) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where visitation will be two hours prior to service. The Rev. Jim Warren will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private inurnment will be at McLean Cemetery, McLean. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Cancer Center, 407 E. She was born Nov. 3, 1927, in McLean, daughter of Thomas and Adeline Cornelius Swearingen. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Kay (Paul) O’Brien, Bloomington; two granddaughters, Emily (Jason) Stults, Elkhart, Ind., and Claire (Christopher) Lantz, Bloomington; two great-grandchildren, Izzy and Jackson Lantz, Bloomington; and one sister, Ellen Carpenter, Normal. Marilynn also leaves behind two great-granddogs and two great-grandcats.

Marilynn worked at State Farm Insurance Cos. for many years and later worked for the Penny Saver newspaper. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Community Cancer Center in Normal, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and at Bent School as a reading tutor.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Bloomington, where she was very active and was a former deacon. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed playing in a local Bunco club with her daughter and was formerly active with the Community Players Theater.
