NORMAL — Marc R. Liberta, 51, Marion, formerly of Bloomington-Normal, passed away Tuesday (July 30, 2013) in Marion.
His funeral will be at noon Monday at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal, with Monsignor Eric S. Powell officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington. Interment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
He was born Dec. 31, 1961, in Bloomington, the son of Anthony and Susan Liberta.
Surviving are his parents, Anthony and Susan Liberta, Normal; a sister, Valerie Liberta, Cherry Tree, Pa.; an uncle, Calvin (Marilyn) Fitch, San Diego, Calif.; and one first cousin, Brian Fitch, Eldorado Hills, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Ross Liberta, and by his grandparents, Ross and Josephine Liberta of LaSalle and Horatio and Dorothy Fitch of Allenspark, Colo.
Marc graduated from University High School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southern Illinois University. He taught at an elementary school for 10 years in Mesa, Ariz., and later became library assistant for reserve/controlled access at Southern Illinois University’s Morris Library.
Marc had an avid interest in North American railroad history and wrote numerous articles on the topic. He also served for several years as secretary of GM&O Railroad Historical Society. His other passions were rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers.
