NORMAL — Louis Roy Bachman, 87, Meadows at Mercy Creek, Normal, formerly of Gridley, passed away peacefully Sunday (Aug. 4, 2013) at Meadows at Mercy Creek, Normal. He took his last breath at 4:10 p.m. when his soul was resurrected to heaven.
Louis was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Lowpoint, a son of Arthur and Ida Sutter Bachman. He married Bernice Stalter on Dec. 14, 1947, at Waldo Mennonite Church. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Christine Hill, Bloomington; Connie (Dan) Roberts, Lexington, Ky.; Gail (Bill Arrighi) Bachman, Livermore, Calif.; and Joy (Rick) Hostetter, Elkhart, Ind.; six grandsons; one granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Violet Davis and Ethel Litwiller, both of Hopedale.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Farming was important in his life, and he enjoyed the black soil and growth of the crops which resulted from it. Louis and his wife also enjoyed travel. They worked with the medical missions international group in Honduras. They visited the Holy Land and followed the Apostle Paul’s journeys. Their travels took them with Mennonite Central Committee to India and Bangladesh to see first-hand where these people hand-carved many of the crafts that were sold and displayed at the Spare and Share Shoppe in Gridley where Louis and his wife spent many hours volunteering. Louis served as head usher for many years at the former Waldo Mennonite Church. He loved the Lord and loved to talk to people.
A visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Prairie View Mennonite Church, Flanagan, where Louis was a member. This will be followed by a short service and lunch. The Rev. Fred Criminger will officiate. Burial will be at Waldo Cemetery for immediate family only with cremation rites accorded. “God exchanges beauty for ashes.”
