Grace Dean

DEER CREEK — Grace I. Dean, 92, of Deer Creek, passed away at 11:58 p.m. Monday (March 27, 2017) at Snyder Village, Metamora.

She was born June 11, 1924, in Portage County, Wis., to John and Lillian Gunderson Hickey. She married Wilbur L. Dean on July 8, 1947, in Custer, Wis. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1990. She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Surviving are two children, John (Holly) Dean, Massillon, Ohio, and Barbara (Dennis) Dahlbach, Toluca; five grandchildren, Brent (Lauren) Dean, Clint (Judy) Dean, David (Andrea) Dahlbach, Bonita (Michael) Hutchison and Brittany (John) Taylor; 10 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Ethel Liebe, Clearwater, Mich.; Edith Steffanus, New London, Wis.; and Harold (Mary) Hickey and James (Joan) Hickey, both of Joliet.

Grace worked as a first-grade teacher with Deer Creek-Mackinaw District 701 before retiring. She was an active member of the Deer Creek Home and Community Education, Deer Creek PTA, Deer Creek Woman’s Club, lifetime member of the Deer Creek American Legion Auxiliary and the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association.

She also was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Washington, where her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with Father Julius Turyatoranwa officiating. Visitation will be one hour before Mass Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, Deer Creek. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, Washington, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Deer Creek Library or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
