BLOOMINGTON — Edwin A. Decker, 72, of 9594 Challenger Drive, Bloomington, died at 8:20 p.m. Monday (June 12, 2006) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Normal, with Pastor Jeffrey R. Henricks officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edwin A. Decker Horticultural Scholarship fund or Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
He was born Sept. 3, 1933, at Chicago, to Edwin H. and Mildred Bowman Decker. He married Geraldine "Gerry" Blomfeldt on Dec. 2, 1961, at Chicago. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Jill Decker, Lake Villa; Connie (John) Thompson, Belleville; and Bruce (Sara) Decker and Jennifer (Anthony) Shelton, both of Normal; a sister, Susan J. Decker, Davie, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and a brother, Robert, preceded him in death.
Mr. Decker was an active member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Normal. He was in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, serving in Germany. He was active in numerous clubs and organizations, including the Men's Garden Club of Villa Park. Boy Scouts, McLean County Master Gardeners and R.S.V.P. in Normal.
He was formerly a florist in the Chicago area and later worked for and retired from AT&T at Naperville. He currently worked for YWCA Senior Services in Bloomington.
