MINONK - Charles R. Jones, 68, Minonk, formerly of South Lyon, Mich., passed away at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 31, 2006) at home. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 16, 1937, in Woollum, Ky., to Gladys and Charlie Jones. He married Genelda Pugh Jones on July 9, 1960. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Tony (Becky), Minonk and Jerry, South Lyon, Mich.; three sisters, Betty Jo Miller, Heidrick, Ky.; Nancy White, Corbin, Ky.; and Beverly Ann Hudson, Barbourville, Ky.; and one brother, Eddie Jones, Wyandotte, Mich.; and four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by both parents and three brothers.
Mr. Jones was a longtime resident of South Lyon and worked 39 years as a millwright at Michigan Seamless Tube Co. (Quanex), retiring in 1995.
He was a proud member of United Steel Workers of America Local 1900, where he served a term as a chairman of the bargaining committee.
He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He enjoyed shooting, hunting and gardening throughout his life. He was a South Lyon Junior League baseball coach and manager throughout the 1970s.
He enjoyed bowling and playing softball with his friends and co-workers in the old Michigan Seamless Tube Co. Leagues. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, South Lyon. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday with final visitation at 10:15 a.m. at First Baptist Church of South Lyon. Burial will be at South Lyon Cemetery.
