BLOOMINGTON — Boo Boo’s Dawghouse plans to open a third location in east Bloomington this fall and complement its Chicago-style hot dogs with sundaes and banana splits.
After the new Boo Boo’s Dawghouse and Ice Cream Shop opens at GE Road and Towanda-Barnes Road, owner Todd Maynor plans to renovate and expand the downtown Normal restaurant that brought Chicago dogs to the Twin Cities.
Maynor hopes to open the east-side location in early August at a new strip mall next to Lady Wellness. He’s still designing the inside of the store but said the restaurant will be similar to those in downtown Normal and downtown Bloomington.
"People have been asking us for years to come to the east side," Maynor said. "We brought a new concept with the ice cream."
Once that opens, Maynor plans to temporarily close the downtown Normal location while he renovates the kitchen, bathrooms, floors and dining area.
Maynor also purchased the building next door that houses the Christian Science Reading Room, 123 E. Beaufort St., Normal. He plans to remodel that space to expand his dining room and add outdoor seating.
"That’s down the road if everything works out, if it fits in our budget," he said.
Depending on the success at the east Bloomington location, Maynor may begin serving ice cream sundaes and banana splits in downtown Bloomington and downtown Normal also.
Maynor opened Boo Boo’s in downtown Normal in 1997 and followed with a second location in downtown Bloomington.
