Mason City's Wunderle advances to archery quarterfinals

Wunderle advanced Wednesday from two rounds of the men's 70-meter competition by defeating Eduardo Velez of Mexico, 106-102, in the round of 64. That victory sent him to the round of 32 where he narrowly defeated Ilario Di Buo' of Italy in shootoff after 108-108 tie after 12 arrows.

Wunderle shoots in the quarterfinals Friday against South Korea's Im Dong-Hyun, one of the tournament favorites.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and medal rounds are scheduled to begin at 3 a.m. CDT on Friday.

Lee Chang-hwan of South Korea set an Olympic record in his second-round archery win, scoring 117 of a possible 120 points.

Lee defeated Yusuf Goktug Ergin of Turkey 117-109 to advance to the third round.

Wunderle will face South Korea's Im Dong-hyun, one of the tournament favorites.

Im beat American Butch Johnson in the second round, 115-106. American Brady Ellison faced two straight Canadians. He beat John David Burnes 111-89, then lost in the second round to Jay Lyon 113-107.
