5 years ago (2004): Matt and Drew Miller positioned themselves to threaten the reign of Elston and Todd Mitchell by shooting a 10-under-par 62 on the first day of qualifying for the Bloomington-Normal Two-Man Best Position Golf Tournament at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course.

15 years ago (1994): Amy Johns singled home the tying run for the Bloomington-Normal Girls Softball Association 18-and-under Angels in the sixth inning and Amanda Hunt's sacrifice fly scored the game-winner in a 10-9 victory over the Joliet Sparks in the Pekin Subway Classic.

25 years ago (1984): Tom Watson dropped a 25-foot birdie putt on the third hole of a sudden death playoff to win the Western Open at Oak Brook. Illinois State graduate D.A. Weibring finished fifth with a 3-under 285, then headed to Normal for the fifth annual D.A. Weibring Redbird Golf Classic.

50 years ago (1959): Three-time city champion Morgan Evans captured one of the few golfing thrills that had eluded him when he fired a hole-in-one at Bloomington Country Club with a 7-iron shot on the 143-yard, par 3 eighth hole. The ace helped him score a four-under-par 67.
