KALAMAZOO, Mich. - After watching the PrairieThunder squander 3-0 and 4-2 leads in regulation, Cory Laylin found himself with a chance to finally put away the pesky Kalamazoo Wings and end Bloomington's five-game road skid Sunday.

The veteran defenseman made the most of the opportunity, beating Kalamazoo netminder Jeremy Symington in sudden death to give Bloomington (6-9-0-0) its second road win of the season, 5-4, over the host Wings and move the Thunder out of the IHL basement.

Don Parsons figured in all of Bloomington's goals in regulation, including his power play goal at the 3:13 mark of the first period that gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Laylin and Sam Ftorek assisted on Parson's fifth goal of the season.

Parsons, the all-time leading American goal-scorer in the history of professional hockey, also added another goal and three assists to up his season point total to 17, fourth best in the IHL.

Thunder captain Jason Ralph tipped in a rebound for his fifth goal of the year to put Bloomington up, 2-0, just 38 seconds into the second stanza. Parsons and Jon Booras picked up the assists on Ralph's power-play marker which chased Kalamazoo starting goalie Tony Quesada.

Less than a minute after Symington replaced Quesada, Parsons sent a slap shot past the Wings goaltender to give the Thunder a commanding 3-0 lead. Laylin and Ftorek were again credited with the assists on Bloomington's third power play goal.

The Wings (6-6-0-2) made the most of a 5-on-3 power play, getting two goals from Glenn Detulleo in 59 seconds to cut the Thunder lead to 3-2 after two periods. Detulleo beat Thunder goalie Loic Lacasse with a one-timer at 14:25 and again with a spinning shot from the slot at 15:24.

Jon Booras, on feeds from Parsons and Scott Crawford, scored 23 seconds into the final stanza to regain a two-goal lead for the Thunder.

But the never-say-die Wings rallied for two goals in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime, starting with John Miller's power-play goal at 14:32 which cut the Bloomington lead to 4-3.

With time running out, Kalamazoo's Florian Iberer sent a pass up-ice to the streaking Mark Versteeh-Lytwyn who blasted a rocket with 4.7 seconds remaining to tie the contest at 4-4 and send the game into an extra session.

Despite outshooting the Wings, 6-1, in the overtime period, the Thunder was unable to find the back of the net and the contest moved into a shootout.

Booras scored for Bloomington but Mike Bickley countered for Kalamazoo in the first shootout, which set the stage for Laylin's sudden-death game-winner.
