Wash car without loud music soundtrack

I am proud to count myself among the many weekend "do listers" in Bloomington-Normal. We wash our cars, tinker in our garages and care for our landscaping each Saturday and Sunday of the summer.

Unfortunately, there is a small minority among us that is creating a nuisance. I am referring to those that have determined that everyone in the neighborhood wants to hear their music. They blast Bob Seger, REO and Van Halen at decibel levels that far exceed that which is necessary to be heard over the sound of the hose as they are rinsing their cars.

They go inside the house for lunch and leave their "boom box" blaring the hits of the '80s loud enough that the neighbors two blocks away can clearly hear the chorus of Def Leopard's "Pyromania."

I can only assume that these usually respectful and polite neighbors are simply convinced that everyone enjoys their taste - and volume - in music. It is to these individuals that I simply state: Please turn it down. If you must listen to your music loud, please invest in a pair of earbuds and a Walkman - I can only assume that if your music is stuck in the '80s your technology may be as well.

We, your other neighbors, appreciate the manner in which you maintain your lawn and help to keep the neighborhood looking nice. However, we don't necessarily like your taste in music or the fact that you leave us no choice but to listen to it.
