In anticipation of experiencing another day commemorating our independence and all the celebration that goes with it, I decided to look up the definition of patriotic. I found it as follows: one who loves his country and jealously guards its welfare.
I love our country and appreciate the many freedoms we enjoy, particularly our freedom to worship. I am reminded that 52 of the 56 men who signed our Declaration of Independence were so claimed orthodox evangelical Christians.
When I think of how our country has drifted from the many biblical beliefs/teachings that were practiced at that time, I am totally dismayed.
The Bible was considered to be God's word and a guide for living and was the basis for our laws. Today the Bible is made fun of and is no longer taught to our children. Consequently, our morals have deteriorated to such an extent that I think our country is in danger of self-destruction.
After all, according to Biblical history, whenever any country has turned its back on God and his teachings, none has survived.
To name a few changes contrary to Biblical teaching that we now seem to accept without blinking an eye: taking of God's name in vain, no longer setting aside a day of rest, homosexuality, same sex marriages, divorce, abortion, etc.,
2 Chronicles 7:14 says: If my people who are called by my name - people who claim to be Christian - will humble themselves and seek my face, and pray, I will heal their land.
