Social service cuts will cost more in the end

I am concerned about the action and lack of action in Springfield. While we wait for a "Democrat" or "Republican" plan, we are forcing individuals, who through "limited" supports have struggled to be taxpaying contributors, to become unemployed, lose their living arrangements and potentially become indigents that, we as taxpayers, then provide total care and support at an increased cost.

Through the cuts to social services, we not only impact the individuals who struggle to contribute to our society but equally add to unemployment for professionals - who will lose their jobs - and parents - one of whom will have to quit work to care for their child/adult , who is now back home.

We will add to indigent roles as some of the people who live semi-independently now become homeless.

The increased tax burden to others in the state is neither a short-term solution nor a sound long-range strategy, as it costs much more to pay for all services and additional supports through welfare and unemployment, as opposed to current "limited" allocated dollars.

I would hope that "politics" as usual would be suspended and that the "short-sighted" action in place is reversed.

An enduring solution is needed, not people blaming each other for a "plan" that one side feels won't work. Collaboration and thoughtful deliberation to assure that we work out of our current "financial crisis" is necessary, and it should not be at the expense of one group that then adds to the burden of us all.
