CLINTON -- A Clinton boy died Sunday night in an ATV accident.
DeWitt County Coroner Alex Calvert identified the boy as Dylan Felton, 15. The accident occurred about 8 p.m. near the intersection of Illini Drive and Ill. Route 10.
Felton was an incoming freshman at Clinton High School, said Superintendent Jeff Holmes. "We're extremely shocked and saddened to hear the news," Holmes said.
The district is coordinating efforts with the DeWitt County Human Resource Center and district guidance counselors to help students.
"Even though it's summer, his friends and classmates need to have an outlet to deal with this," Holmes said. "That's in place now and will be until it's no longer necessary."
Holmes said anyone needing counseling services should call (217) 935-8321.
The accident occurred as Felton rode his four-wheeler and came down an embankment and was unable to make a turn, Calvert said. "He struck a piece of concrete. No other vehicles were involved."
A passerby called 911. Clinton police, DeWitt County Sheriff's and Clinton Ambulance responded. Calvert said Felton showed no signs of life; he was pronounced dead at Dr. John Warner Hospital at 9 p.m.
"It's a very sad situation and for something like that to happen on a holiday weekend is just very unfortunate," Calvert said.
Accident reconstruction specialists were on the scene until about midnight.
