VIENNA, Austria - Austrian police say a man set his parents on fire with a home-made flame thrower, killing them.

Chief investigator Anton Kiesl says the 48-year-old man set the elderly couple on fire as they lay in bed late Friday using a flame thrower he made from a propane gas container.

Kiesl said the woman burned to death in her bed and her husband's body was found on a bench outside their home in St. Magdalena am Lemberg in the southeast.

Both victims were in their 80s; the woman was bedridden.

Kiesl said Saturday the man fled and attempted to commit suicide. He is currently in an induced coma.
