100 years ago
March 28, 1908: The Rev. Billy Sunday will return to Bloomington Monday to speak on "booze and local option." He'll speak to ladies in the afternoon and men in the evening. His appearance marks the close of the anti-saloon league's election campaign.
75 years ago
March 28, 1933: Revilo S. Kruse, 91, known as the founder of Arrowsmith, died at his home. He built the first house in Arrowsmith, and opened a grain and lumber company there soon after the railroad went through. (The town is named for one Ezekiel Arrowsmith).
50 years
March 28, 1958: The Phil-Kron on South Main Street has changed hands and is now known as The Drive-In Theater. It will be open every night, and its owners promise newer movies than before. The first shows since the change are "Sing Boy, Sing," and "The Deerslayer."
25 years
March 29, 1983: It was a gloomy forecast from Jeffrey Reeves, manager of Corn Belt Electric. He predicted rates will double by 1990. He cited three reasons: the cost of buying power; growth of future power sales; and the cost of Illinois Power's nuclear plant at Clinton.
