BLOOMINGTON - Lightning strikes Monday morning caused some disruptions for electrical equipment, but nobody was hurt.
Alan Sender, chief operating officer for Chestnut Health Systems, said lightning struck just outside his office in an administrative area of Chestnut's campus at 1003 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. There may have been a second strike on a building attached by a breezeway, he said.
The strike and thunder caused heavy vibrations inside the building, he said.
"I could just feel it through my body," Sender said. "It was enormously loud."
The strike damaged some electronics, including computers, some phones and parts of the elevator, alarm and key card systems, Sender said.
Nobody was evacuated because of the lightning strike, and operations continued Monday, Sender said.
But some electronics were blown off of walls, and they came down through ceiling tiles, he said.
Deputy Fire Chief David Adelsberger said a strike outside his department's station at 1705 S. Morris Ave. knocked out one radio for less than five minutes, but firefighters were still able to receive dispatch calls.
