BLOOMINGTON - State Farm Insurance Cos. will notify 13,400 people who used its online employment application system that some personal information may have been at risk.
State Farm recently discovered a problem in the system, but there is no indication any information was misused.
The company is also offering one year of credit monitoring services to impacted individuals at no charge.
The portion of the application at risk was immediately disabled until after the problem was resolved.
"Our response to this incident is consistent with State Farm's commitment to keeping customer, agent, employee and potential employee information secure," said Mary Schmidt, vice president-human resources.
State Farm launched a new online employment application in March. Since then, 64,749 people in the U.S. and Canada have applied for jobs online. Only 13,400 people completed the next phase of the employment process by providing additional personal information.
