SPRINGFIELD - The amount of money Illinois casinos took in dropped again in April, a monthly Illinois Gaming Board report shows.
Each of the state's nine riverboat gambling sites took in less money than they did in April of last year, the report shows. And each saw its revenues drop in April over March, too. Attendance is also down.
Several casinos have blamed the drop on the state's indoor smoking ban, which kicked in at the beginning of the year.
But others have said a general slowdown in the economy have kept people from dropping dollars on the boats.
Revenue drops over last April range anywhere from a nearly 27 percent drop in Alton to a smaller 5 percent decrease in East St. Louis. Casino Rock Island posted a drop of 17 percent over the same period, Metropolis showed a 25.5 percent loss.
