How Time Flies for May 11, 2008:

May 11, 1908: The Pantagraph carried a double full page ad for a sale at A. Livingston & Son. In a separate story, the paper says this is the biggest ad it has ever carried. (Livingston's was on the south side of the square. Michael's Restaurant occupies the building's first floor.)

May 11, 1933: Bloomington's new mayor and city council can't seem to agree on the right people for appointed positions. But both sides agree on selection of Detective Paul Giermann as police chief. Mayor Wellmerling is a Democrat. The council is Republican by a 10-4 majority.

May 11, 1958: Mayor Bob McGraw finally accepted his brother Harold's resignation from the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners. Harold apparently resigned because he actually lives just outside the city, which would have raised questions about any action taken by the board.

May 11, 1983: That house explosion at 109 West Cherry Street in Normal a few days ago now looks suspicious. Assistant Fire Chief Charles Smalley says wood samples from the house have been sent to a crime lab in Morton for testing.
