Tree planting set at Spring Lake site
STREATOR - Volunteers will plant 350 trees at Spring Lake beginning at 9 a.m. May 10 to start this year's work at the 38-acre park, which was saved from neglect when community members stepped forward.
In addition to the trees, workers will put stones in the creek below the dam to allow a walkway to other portions of the park and will install benches.

Crime Stoppers seeks info on copper theft
STREATOR - Police are seeking information about the theft of copper from a ComEd substation near the high school.
An undetermined amount of the metal was taken. Anyone with information may call Crime Stoppers at (815) 672-9000.
Earth Week events planned at Pontiac
PONTIAC - Several Livingston County organizations will celebrate Earth Week at Humiston Woods Nature Center between April 20-27.
The Joseph K. Jobst Education Building will house several of the exhibits, including recycling, a pharmaceutical disposal program, and storm drain stenciling initiative.
The education building will be open 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
A variety of other activities and exhibits, including ecology-related exhibits by area residents and organizations, will be from 1 to 5 p.m. April 27.
On April 27, Pontiac will provide a free trolley service to avoid parking problems at the site. Pick-up points will be announced later.
