NORMAL - Paul and Caragh Brooks haven't had much time to bask in wedded bliss since they took their vows before a crowd at the Normal Taco Bell Friday night. | Video

They've been bombarded with phone calls about their unconventional marriage ceremony and on Monday left for New York to appear on the CBS Early Show today. The show airs at 7 a.m. on Comcast channel 7.

"They called this afternoon and said they were interested in our story," said Paul Brooks. "They asked a few questions and before we knew it, the tickets were booked …"

The CBS show isn't the only one interested in the Brooks' story.

Paul Brooks said the Tonight Show called on Monday and two magazines are having a bidding war to get their story.

"With all the pomp and circumstance, we haven't really thought about being married too much," he said.

Paul Brooks of Normal and Caragh Brooks of Australia met through an Internet dating site about a year ago. Caragh Brooks moved to Normal about six months ago and the couple got engaged on New Year's Eve.

They decided to get married at Taco Bell, 1527 E. College Ave., because they like the restaurant and it was "appropriate" for an "off-beat relationship" like theirs, Paul Brooks said.

Taco Bell decorated the restaurant and found hot sauce packets imprinted with the phrase, "Will You Marry Me?"

The restaurant paid for the newlywed's meal while the several dozen guests paid for their own. Paul Brooks' parents, Larry and Kathy Brooks of Normal, supplied the cake. The entire wedding cost about $200.

A story appeared in The Pantagraph on Saturday.

"Things snowballed once it hit AP (the Associated Press wire)," said Paul Brooks.

An Internet search of the couple's name on Google revealed thousands of hits across the world.
