Volkswagon Beetle stolen in Normal

A white Volkswagen Beetle was stolen Friday from the 200 block of East Phoenix Avenue, Normal police said.

Vandalism - Money was stolen Saturday from coin-operated washers and dryers in an apartment building in the 700 block of Golfcrest Road, Normal police said. There also were two large holes knocked in drywall and a light fixture was damaged.

Burglary - A laptop computer was stolen Jan. 7 or 8 from the 1700 block of Rockingham Drive, Normal police said.

Theft - A computer was stolen Sunday from a residence in the 2000 block of North Linden Street, Normal police said.

Assault rifle leads to felony counts

BLOOMINGTON - A man faces felony weapons charges after police said an assault rifle was found in August in his car.

Travis Mehalic, 29. of the 200 block of East Douglas St., was charged with possession of an assault rife and aggravated unlawful use of it, said court documents.

Mehalic, who was arrested on a warrant, was returned to McLean County jail in lieu of posting $5,000.

Unlawful restraint -Phillip Grismore, 23, of the 100 block of College Park Court, Normal, was charged with illegally detaining another person Sunday, said court documents. He was returned to McLean County jail in lieu of posting $200.

Aggravated battery - Jose Ortega, 36, of the 900 block of South Vale Street, Bloomington, was charged with hitting two police officers Sunday as they arrested him, leaving one officer with a swollen hand. He was returned to McLean County jail in lieu of posting $500.
