100 years ago
Aug. 3, 1908: Voting in the Illinois primary election will be held 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. The rules say voters must be male citizens of the United States; they must state which party they belong to; and, every office must be actually voted for. Straight ticket voting will not count.
75 years ago
Aug. 3, 1933: President Roosevelt "drafted" Bloomington business leaders Eugene D. Funk, Sr. and F.D.E. Babcock to serve on the Illinois board of the National Recovery Act. The President's letter asks them to volunteer their services without compensation.
50 years ago
Aug. 3, 1958: The rainy summer continues. Overnight rainfall in Bloomington-Normal measured 3.72 inches. In Wapella, the typical street scene resembled a lake. (Parts of Wapella took on a similar look this year after the heavy rains in early June.)
25 years ago
Aug. 3, 1983: From the McLean County Fair: Bryan Hoffman of Danvers showed the grand champion market lamb. Ken Ropp's three-year old Jersey cow took honors for the best udder. And Amy Wertz's goat was named best of show.
