BLOOMINGTON - A 2-month-old infant was not breathing when she was found alone and face-down on a waterbed May 16 at a home-based day care in Bloomington, the coroner said.

Brooklyn Andres likely had been on the bed 30 to 45 minutes, and there likely was no one else in the room with her, said McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services closed the day care center at 1303½ S. Hinshaw Ave. after the child's death.

The girl was found unresponsive about 3:35 p.m. May 16, and she was pronounced dead 45 minutes later at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal, according to information from Kimmerling. Police previously said the girl was put down for a nap, and she wasn't breathing when a caregiver later checked on her.

The girl died of asphyxia, Kimmerling said, and there was no abuse, infection, trauma or congenital abnormality that could have contributed to the girl's death.

An inquest in the girl's death is scheduled for July 10.

A DCFS spokesman previously said his agency instituted a protective plan for the day care home, prohibiting any further child care.
