100 years ago

Nov. 6, 1909: Peoria is getting its first skyscraper and a newspaper editor is getting carried away with what you can see from nine or ten stories up. Pekin is plainly visible, he says, but so are buildings in Galesburg and Springfield, along with the Mississippi River and beyond.

75 years ago

Nov. 6, 1934: The new 1935 Hupmobiles are out, and Bloomington has a new Hupmobile dealer: Wannemacher's at 416-418 North Center Street. Prices start at $695 for a full size, four door sedan with power brakes.

50 years ago

Nov. 6, 1959: There are signs we're in for an early winter. Snow fell this morning, and it stuck. The snow didn't amount to much, but it was wet, and it got here a full three weeks before the first real snow of last year.
