NORMAL - Unions workers at Mitsubishi Motors North America will vote on a tentative contract agreement Friday and Saturday.

An informational meeting for the 1,264 members of United Auto Workers Local 2488 will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Illinois State University's Braden Auditorium. Following the meeting, voting will continue there from 5 to 7 p.m.

One hour later, at 8 p.m., voting will resume at the UAW hall on Illinois 9 in west Bloomington. It will continue at the hall, through the night, until 3 p.m. Saturday, said Local 2488 President Ralph Timan.

If approved, the four-year pact guarantees jobs through 2012 in return for pay and benefit cuts, as well as the creation of a two-tiered wage system.

The recent bargaining came at a turbulent time for both Mitsubishi and the auto industry. The company's U.S. sales through September have dropped 24.3 percent, from 105,826 vehicles in 2007 to 80,105 in 2008.
