Ozinga to host fundraiser with Dick Cheney

SPRINGFIELD -- The Republican candidate hoping to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller in Congress will get a hand in raising campaign money Wednesday from Vice President Dick Cheney.

Martin Ozinga, who’s vying for the 11th Congressional District seat against Illinois Senate Majority Leader Debbie Halvorson, D-Crete, and Green Party candidate Jason Wallace, will host Cheney as his guest in the district at a closed-door fundraiser in Homer Glen.

The vice presidential visit comes as the candidates seek to seal up votes with a little more than three weeks until Election Day.

Cheney is not expected to make any public remarks as he flies in and out of Chicago for what amounts to a three-hour visit.

Tickets are $500 per person. For $2,300, attendees can get a photo of themselves with Cheney.

The Halvorson campaign sought on Monday to tie the event to the recent global economic meltdown, saying Cheney’s visit shows Ozinga is “out of touch” with middle class voters.

“Dick Cheney is symbolic of everything that’s been wrong with the past eight years,” Halvorson campaign chief Brian Doory said in a statement.

The 11th district stretches from Chicago’s south suburbs to Bloomington-Normal.

" Hopefully an Halvorson operative can secure a picture of " Ozzie " standing next to " Dead eye Dick " with a big smile on his mug. That will be the " kiss of death " ! "

" Anyone that will team up with either of these so called men (crooks) show what they stand for. Third party voting is what I plan on and that is Ron Paul. Ozinga wants to destroy health care and SS for older Americans. I guess because his health care secure so what does he care about us. Cheney has crook emblazoned on his forehead so look out for the wolf in sheep's clothing. I always told my kids, birds of a feather flock together. "

" Everybody here had made up thier minds long ago, so do not try to say this is a deciding facter.

As for the global economic meltdown comment, that is just scare tactics on the part of Halverson.

More reasons to vote third party. "

" Let us hope this will be the last time Dick Cheney will darken Illinois soil. Ozinga will definitely lose the election now. Really stupid move, Martin. "

" talk about being out of touch! They actually think Cheney's presence will help his campaign? Cheny is the most secretive and dangerous VP in this country's history - and not because he shot his buddy in the face. "

He must.

It says that donors will get their picture taken with Cheney. I wonder if he'll be holding the shotgun that he shot the lawyer with in the pictures? "
