Report: Woman drove SUV into utility pole; outages followed

BLOOMINGTON -- A woman drove her Jeep Cherokee into a utility pole at Walnut and Clinton Streets shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday eyewitnesses said.

The woman refused medical treatment.

Bloomington police and Bloomington fire department responded to the scene. Police are not yet releasing the name of the woman involved in the accident.

Traffic was blocked on Clinton Street from Empire Street to Chestnut Street.

The Ameren IPWeb site said 116 customers were without power at 8 p.m. but representatives did not immediately return a call regarding whether the outages were caused by the accident.

An single vehicle accident at the corner of Clinton Ave. and Walnut St. in Bloomington broke a utility pole in three segments leaving the top hanging over Clinton Ave. Traffic was not allowed in the area until the power company arrived to clean up the mess. " I use to live within a block of where this accident occured about 14-15 years ago. There was an accident about this time of year when a person was driving down Walnut and didn't stop at Clinton because they were looking at all the pretty trees and their changing colors. "

I don't think so...the ads rotate through, now the ad is for a Ford Truck/ Ford Dealership, and earlier it was for a shop for joggers/runners. I think it was just conincidental that you happened to see the dog ad. "
