5 years ago (2002): Bloomington (13-0) posted a 21-14 victory over Thornton Fractional South in the Class 6A football semifinals. Pontiac’s Michael Long threw for 232 yards and four touchdowns in a 27-21 win over Belleville Althoff in Class 5A. El Paso beat Cerro Gordo 12-10 in Class 1A.
15 years ago (1992): Normal Community defeated Bloomington, 58-37, to win the championship of the girls Intercity Basketball Tournament. Jill Shoemaker of NCHS led all scorers with 20 points, and she also had 10 rebounds, one less than teammate Emily Starkey.
25 years ago (1982): El Paso High School won the Wenona Thanksgiving Tournament by defeating Minonk-Dana-Rutland in double overtime. El Paso tied the game with nine seconds left in regulation on a jump shot by Kevin Parkhouse.
50 years ago (1957): Congratulations are in order for Tony Jaskowiak, Trinity’s promising junior halfback who was a real threat in every game this fall at the parochial school. He and Bob Collins of Chicago Mount Carmel were named to the Chicago American’s All-State team at the halfback positions.
