Public safety roundup for Nov. 24, 2007: Weapons stolen from home BLOOMINGTON -- Two shotguns, two rifles, a handgun, a computer and various DVDs, all with a total value of $1,500, were stolen between 5 p.m. Nov. 18 and 8 a.m. Nov. 19 from a residence in the 900 Block of South Wright Street, Bloomington, a police official said. There was no sign of forced entry. Burglary - A power paint sprayer valued at $500 were stolen from a residence between 3 p.m. Nov. 19 and 7:30 p.m., Nov. 20 in the 1100 Block of Teegan Street, Bloomington, a police official said. Burglary - A computer and various electronic components, no value given, were stolen between 11 p.m. Nov. 18 and 8:45 a.m. Nov. 19 from a residence in the 900 Block of East Chestnut St., Bloomington, a police official said. It was not clear how entry was gained, the official said. Burglary — Twenty sets of U.S. mint coins were reported stolen from the bedroom of a residence in the 400 block of Michael Court, a Normal police report said. The coins, from 2003 to 2006, were stolen sometime between October 2006 and Oct. 15, 2007, the report said. Residential burglary — Some nonprescription medicine was reported stolen last week from an apartment in the 1100 block of West College Avenue, said a Normal police report. Burglary — Someone kicked in a garage door Nov. 16 and stole a stereo from a car in the 800 block of A Street in North Meadow Village, said a Normal police report. Burglary — Aaron’s Sales & Lease, 1724 RT Dunn Drive, was reported burglarized at 2:40 a.m. Nov. 18. Four LCD televisions and an HD DVD player were stolen, a Bloomington police report said. Vehicle burglary — Someone cut open the soft-top roofs of two cars in an Illinois State University parking lot and stole cash and part of a radio sometime between Nov. 4 and 16, an ISU police report said. The foot-long tears in the roofs of cars in Lot S103 — north of Gregory Street along Main Street — were reported Nov. 16, the report said. Damage to both roofs was estimated at about $150. Minor damage was done to the console of one of the cars, which also had some cash stolen. The second car also had a $200 loss from a radio. Vandalism — Someone spray painted a garage door and siding of a building on the 1300 block of Emeline Street on Nov. 17, a Normal police report said. Residential burglary — The door of a residence in the 100 block of Robert Drive was found pried open on Nov. 16, a Normal police report said. Nothing was reported missing. Pontiac man accused of abuse PONTIAC -- A Pontiac man has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 years old that possibly started eight years ago, police said. Eric Hamand, 32, was arrested last week in a case dating to fall 1999, court reports said. Pontiac police said the Department of Children and Family Services and investigators are still reviewing the case. Hamand is due back in court Nov. 28 in the Livingston County Courthouse. He remains jailed in lieu of posting $10,000. Burglary — A 36-year-old man is accused of breaking a window, entering a building and stealing change before trying to flee from police in Bloomington. Two officers suffered minor injuries to a wrist and a knee in the incident, police said. Scott A. Atkins was jailed Friday in lieu of $1,000 on charges of burglary and resisting a police officer. A court document says officers saw Atkins inside National Welding Supply Co., 307 S. McClun St., before he dove out a window head-first, broke free from an officer’s grip and ran. When arrested, Atkins had a large amount of change in his pocket and admitted some was from the building, the document said. Cocaine — Three Chicago men and two Bloomington women were arrested Wednesday in Bloomington on cocaine-related charges. Christiaan D. Davis, 18, Dwayne L. Franklin, 18, and Ramon T. Sumerlin, 25, were jailed in lieu of posting $200,000 each on two counts each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver the drug within 1,000 feet of a public housing complex. They are accused of possessing and intending to sell cocaine near Sunnyside public housing complex. Amber L. Shepherd, 17, of the 800 block of West Illinois Street, was held in lieu of $5,000 on two charges of criminal drug conspiracy. She is accused of agreeing with Davis to sell cocaine to a police source. Ebony S. Brown, 27, of the 1800 block of West Illinois Street, was jailed in lieu of posting $5,000 on charges of permitting the unlawful use of a building and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. She is accused of letting Davis sell cocaine from her home and of possessing cocaine. |
