5 years ago (2002): Steve Beurskens scored four goals as University High blanked Williamsville 6-0 to win the U High Class A Regional soccer championship and earn its 10th straight regional plaque. The Pioneers will enter sectional play with a 16-3-1 record.
15 years ago (1992): Chris Bisaillon caught three scoring passes in the first 10 minutes of Illinois Wesleyan’s 63-8 thrashing of Carthage and added a fourth TD catch in the third quarter to run his career total to 52, eclipsing the NCAA all-division career touchdown reception record of 50 set by San Francisco 49er star Jerry Rice at Mississippi Valley State.
25 years ago (1982): Three area riders placed in a motorcycle motocross race at Kankakee. Matt Kemp of Pontiac won the Open class and Steve Dubosh of Normal won the 250 B class. Mark Shepherd of Bloomington was fourth in the 250 B class.
50 years ago (1957): Just three days after losing to Pontiac in a drenching rain, Normal Community will resume its football schedule as the opponent in Lincoln’s homecoming game. A flu epidemic has struck most if not all football squads in Central Illinois this season, causing some schedules to be altered.
