5 years ago (2002): Chris Miller assisted on the University High School soccer team’s first goal and scored the second as the Pioneers defeated Champaign Centennial, 2-1. Stuart Beurskens scored the first goal for U High (8-0).
15 years ago (1992): Kurt O’Connor kicked a 22-yard field goal to give University High a 10-7 overtime football victory over Pontiac. The Pioneers also won in soccer when Jeremy Crist and Brigham Mann scored goals in a 2-0 victory over Calvary Baptist of Normal.
25 years ago (1982): John Jacobson of Cornell High School won the individual title at the Proviso West Invitational cross country meet in a course record time of 14 minutes, 40 seconds. Jacobson, a senior, bested runnerup Ron Stahl of New Lenox Lincoln-Way by 15 seconds over the three-mile course to remain undefeated.
50 years ago (1957): Tom Scott didn’t flavor his first performance as a member of the Bradley University football team with a Frank Merriwell touch but the Chenoa freshman halfback is going to help the Braves a great deal in the coming years, according to Coach Billy Stone.
