5 years ago (2002): Victories by Abby Heinold in the 400-meter run and by two relay teams led Eureka to first place in the Class A Girls State track and field championships. Mahomet-Seymour senior Maureen Scott had a resounding triumph in the Class AA 1,600-meter run.

15 years ago (1992): A three-run sixth inning carried University High from a 2-0 deficit to its third straight Corn Belt Conference baseball title with a 3-2 win over Mahomet-Seymour. The rally was capped by Cory Legner’s RBI double and Cory Roop’s single which drove home two.

25 years ago (1982): Pontiac won three relay races on its way to the Corn Belt Conference track and field championship. University High’s Carter Henson set a pair of records in the horizontal jumps to highlight the individual performances.

50 years ago (1957): Don Hofer fired a three-over-par 73 for medalist honors as the State Farm Insurance Companies golf team riddled Hiram Walker of Peoria, 27-9, at Highland Park.
