PONTIAC — A 19-year-old Pontiac man is accused of inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old girl on Sunday.

William J. Miller, whose address was listed as the 600 block of West Lincoln Avenue, Pontiac, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He was in the Livingston County jail Tuesday afternoon in lieu of posting $1,000.

Miller has been ordered to stay away from the victim, according to Livingston County court records and First Assistant State’s Attorney Carey Luckman.

Luckman said he couldn’t comment on the circumstances of the case or on how authorities were led to Miller. The charge alleges Miller used force during the alleged incident.

A preliminary hearing for Miller is scheduled for Monday.

A Class 2 felony carries possible penalties of from probation to seven years in prison.

" A Class 2 felony can get you probation, not a sex crime. That's just the category. Someone driving on a revoked license can get a Class 2 felony. I know around here you lynch folks like that, but normally you get probation. "

" I do not know all of the details of this case, but if the two were consenting together in a relationship then he should not get jail time, however, if this is a forceable situation then he should indeed get the maximum punishment. The hard thing about this is that although he is technically an adult, they are only five years apart and quite possibly could have had a relationship. "

" I will try and check the law but I am not sure a 14 year old can consent legally in the State of Illinois. "

" It could have been a consensual thing between teenagers, but our puritan laws require prosecution and punishment, hence the lighter punishment of probation. But hey, this is Bloomington-Normal. All teenaged sex should be punished with 20 years in prison and mandatory bible study... ah, now I fit in! "

" probation for sex crime happens alot more than you think?? "

To Huh wrote on Apr 24, 2007 10:13 PM:

" Do you really think that a Class 2 felony, should have penalties equal to Class X crimes? Yeah, you are right. What we really need is the death penalty for jaywalkers. "
